Cecilia Esquivel is a clinical social worker licensed in the State of Maryland. She holds a master's degree from The Catholic University of America.

Born in Buenos Aires, Argentina, she has resided in the U.S. since 1984. She has worked for a number of agencies that serve the Latino population. In 1998, she established her private psychotherapy practice in Takoma Park, MD. In 2016, she moved her practice to her home office in Adelphi, MD.

She works with individuals, couples and families.

She calls her methodology "pragmatic psychotherapy", looking for the roots of problems while at the same time looking for concrete strategies to deal with situations in the present.

WHO NEEDS THERAPY ?

At some point in our lives, we can all feel overwhelmed and confused. We may seek help to deal with feelings and situations that seem beyond our control:

  • life transitions

  • problems in our personal relationships

  • difficult family situations

  • the loss of a job or other work problems

  • death of a loved one

  • illness

  • depression

  • self-esteem issues

  • stress

  • anxiety or panic attacks

  • difficulty adapting to life after relocation, sometimes aggravated by the loss of our sources of social support and networks

  • substance abuse

Psychotherapy helps in situations where we feel stuck, unable to find our way out of the tunnel.

Psychotherapy helps us to discover and value ourselves, and to regain confidence in our ability to control our destiny.

Psychotherapy can teach you to manage stress, either at work or in your personal life. You will learn more productive ways to communicate with those you love, to control anxieties and phobias and to recover from depression.

HOW LONG WILL I NEED THERAPY ?

The duration of treatment varies according to the severity , intensity and longevity of the problem. The average treatment is 12 to 24 sessions . In some cases, specific problems are resolved in a few sessions. On the other hand, some situations require more work and may involve several months of treatment.
